SeniorsPlus: Stepping Up in a Time of Need

From the CEO’s Desk:

Once again, we find ourselves facing an urgent challenge that puts our community at risk. The ongoing federal shutdown and resulting delay in SNAP benefit issuance have left many people—particularly older adults and adults with disabilities—facing increased food insecurity.

At SeniorsPlus, we are stepping up to help.

To meet immediate needs, we have established a small, staff- and volunteer-supported food pantry in our Lewiston office. This pantry is already helping older adults and adults with disabilities access essential groceries during this difficult time.

In addition, we are working to deploy the Governor’s Emergency Food funds to provide supplemental meals to our Meals on Wheels clients, those on our waiting list, and others enrolled in SNAP. These efforts include delivering shelf-stable and frozen meals, along with fresh bread and fruit, to help ensure no one goes hungry.

Our team knows how to mobilize quickly in a crisis—something we’ve proven time and again. However, our ability to respond is limited by the size of our current facility. This situation highlights, yet again, the urgent need for the expanded kitchen and service areas that will soon be part of the new Encompass Education and Nutrition Center, now under construction in Lewiston.

At SeniorsPlus, our staff and volunteers never hesitate to act. Their creativity, compassion, and dedication to solving problems continue to make all the difference for the people we serve.

How can you help:

Give to our Meals on Wheels Program

With your support, we can ensure that SeniorsPlus is always ready to respond to growing needs—today, and in the future.
