“Thank you so much for your help and support. The Meals on Wheels is a great help. Getting older isn’t easy, but you made a difference.”

Denise came to SeniorsPlus through a referral. She is an octogenarian who had a stroke and is now legally blind. She explained to her case worker that had a hard time making meals for herself. As a result, she said she eats minimally and tends to eat “all the wrong food, because it’s easier for me.” When her caseworker informed her that she qualified for Meals on Wheels, she began to cry because was so happy. “Bless you,” she said repeatedly in between her tears.

Meals on Wheels experience

Bill, an Androscoggin County resident, attended our Matter of Balance class, which is our evidence-based class for people who wish to reduce their risk of falling and to increase their activity. Matter of Balance is a staple of the educational programming at SeniorsPlus as it has a proven record of success. Bill was energized and during a class break he informed the Education Health Supervisor and her co-teacher that because of the class and their infectious enthusiasm, he was motivated to start a regular exercise regimen for himself. He said that he was feeling healthier and better and acknowledged the importance of keeping himself in shape so that he may remain independent longer.
