Healthy Living for ME’s programs are evidence-based and proven to make a positive difference in quality of life measures such as feeling more in control, less stressed, and able to do more of what makes you feel well. Classes include strategies and exercises to take an active role in managing your health and well-being, and are offered in four program categories: Falls Prevention, Diabetes Prevention & Self-Management, Caregiver Support, and Chronic Pain & Disease Management.

Living Well with Chronic Pain

This is a 6-week workshop for those who want to learn ways to better manage their pain and health concerns. The workshop is held once a week for 2 1/2 hours for adults who have long-term or chronic pain lasting longer than six months, or beyond the expected healing time for an injury. 

Participants of this interactive workshop learn ways to deal with frustration, fatigue, poor sleep, and isolation.

You will also learn:

  • appropriate exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, endurance
  • techniques for pacing activity and rest
  • how to evaluate new treatments
  • appropriate use of medications.
  • Studies have shown that participants of this workshop report experiencing more vitality and energy, pain reduction, a more independent lifestyle, improved mental health, and increased satisfaction with their lives.

    Living Well for Better Health 

    Living Well for Better Health is an interactive workshop series held for 2 1/2 hours, once a week, for six weeks. Adults with any kind of health condition such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression, weight concerns, or any other ongoing health problem attend together. Family members or friends are encouraged to attend as well.

    Participants of this interactive workshop learn ways to deal with issues including fatigue, pain, anxiety, sadness and/or depression.

    You will also learn:

  • appropriate exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • how to eat healthier
  • how to evaluate new treatments
  • how to be a member of your healthcare team
  • how to set goals, plan for your future, and more.

    A Matter of Balance 

    A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is an interactive workshop series designed to help reduce the risk of falls. It reduces the fear of falling, and increases activity levels of older adults. Matter of Balance is for those over age 60. It is especially helpful if you are concerned about falls, have fallen in the past, or have restricted activities because of concerns about falling. This course is for those interested in learning exercises to improve balance, flexibility and strength. The two-hour classes are held once or twice a week for eight sessions. 

    Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals to increase physical activity and other healthy behaviors, and learn exercises to improve balance, strength and flexibility. This course will help participants idenfity additional ways to reduce fall risks in the home.

    Living Well with Diabetes

    This workshop teaches participants a variety of necessary day-to-day management skills to actively manage diabetes and manage and/or increase life’s activities in order to lead active and fulfilling lives.  

    Living Well with Diabetes is facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom have experience living with diabetes themselves. The workshop is open to individuals living with type 2 diabetes as a well as their caregivers, friends, and family members.

    Through this program originally developed by Stanford University and supported by Spectrum Generations, participants will learn a variety of necessary day-to-day management skills needed to actively manage diabetes and manage and/or increase life’s activities in order to lead active and fulfilling lives.
